Father of Indian Geography

James Rennell is known as father of Indian Geography. He was came from England near 1760 as a member of East India Company. Rennell was first one who prepared the detailed map of India in 1783. He was a great surveyor at that time who was appointed as Surveyor-general by Robart Clive in 1767 and he prepared the Bengal Atlas in 1789. He was an oceanographer his works were the source of different information of the currents of Indian and Atlantic Ocean. His survey works produced various maps of India as like, Bihar and Bengal map, Northern and central Indian map, Ganga River basin map, Peninsula Indian map etc.. He awarded by gold medal of the Royal Society of Literature in 1825.
