Nobel of Geography

'Vautrin Lud Prize' is known as 'Nobel of Geography'. This is the highest award in the field of Geography. The award is named on the name of French Scholar Vautrin Lud, who was one of the great scholar, traveller and discoverer in the field of Geography . It was first announced in 1991 and from that time each year in autumn at the time of International Geography Festival in France the award is distributed. 
Petter Haggett was the first one who received this award in 1991. Till 2019, 28 scholars awarded where  John A Agnew was last recipient who received this award in 2019.

In Indian literature 'Geography' is called 'Bhugol' or 'Bhogol' or 'Bhoogol'. In ancient Indian science and astronomy, Varahamihira one of the prominent name in Sixth century. His Surya- siddhanta  treatise source of various astronomical geographic  concepts as like various planets and subplanets and it's dimensions and orbit and astronomical bodies etc.. Father of Indian Geography

James Rennell is known as father of Indian Geography. He was came from England near 1760 as a member of East India Company. Rennell was first one who prepared the detailed map of India in 1783. He was a great surveyor at that time who was appointed as Surveyor-general by Robart Clive in 1767 and he prepared the Bengal Atlas in 1789. He was an oceanographer his works were the source of different information of the currents of Indian and Atlantic Ocean. His survey works produced various maps of India as like, Bihar and Bengal map, Northern and central Indian map, Ganga River basin map, Peninsula Indian map etc.. Father of Geography

Geography is a subject which discussed about the surface of the Earth. The word geography comes from Greek word 'Geographia' that means'Earth description'. Eratosthenes was the first one who used the term Geography. He is called founder of Geography. According to development of the concept of Geography, Eratosthenes is known as father of ancient geography. He has lots of  contribution in geography as like calculation of the tilt of Earth's axis, distances between Earth and Sun, leap day etc.  But, Alexander Von Humboldt and Carl Ritter both are called father of modern geography. They both introduce the methods of the study of Geography.
